Offered for your consideration is an antique #3 Jarecki adjustable pipe tongs. Manufactured by the Jarecki Manufacturing Company of Erie, Pennsylvania, the tongs have a patent date of 1873, which is one year after the company was founded. Made of cast iron, the #3 was used to grip pipes ranging from 1/2" up to 2 1/2" and was advertised to "easily adjust to any pipe within their range". The steel bar is reversible so that either end can be used. It was used for grasping brass pipe, bolts, or studs, and were not crushed by it's use. These tongs were recommended for use in engine, lathe, factories or machine shops. The ad that we were able to find showed that the tongs sold for .00!! when they were introduced. They have a measurement of about 29" long and are in very good 'as found' condition, and can still be adjusted for use. There is some rust to the piece, as would be expected due to the age, but the the tool is not compromised for use if so desired. They do have a hefty weight of about 14 pounds 8 ounces and will ship at 18 pounds, as it will be boxed for protection in a box measuring 32" x 7" x 7", so you can use the Ebay shipping calculator to confirm the shipping charge.
